The Massif Central is a highland region in the middle and south of France. It is made up of old mountains and volcanoes. The area covers about 15% of France and has many plateaus, valleys, and extinct volcanic peaks. The highest point is Puy de Sancy, which is 1,885 meters tall. The region includes several mountain groups like the Monts Dore, Monts du Cantal, and Cévennes. It is not as high as the Alps or Pyrenees but is important for farming, hiking, and nature. Towns like Clermont-Ferrand, Le Puy-en-Velay, and Rodez are found in or near the Massif Central.
