Middle East countries
The Middle East is a region mostly located in West Asia, but it does not include the South Caucasus (like Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan). It includes countries in the Arabian Peninsula such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Yemen.
It also includes southern Iraq and Jordan, and the Levant area, which covers Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and parts of Jordan. Turkey is part of the Middle East too—the larger Asian part (Anatolia) and the smaller European part (west of the Bosporus).
Egypt, even though it’s in North Africa, is also considered part of the Middle East. Iran is included as well. The region of Mesopotamia (mainly northern Iraq) and the Socotra Islands of Yemen are also part of it.

Antarctica
Antarctica and the Antarctic region are different. Antarctica is the continent located at the Earth’s South Pole, covered in ice and uninhabited. The Antarctic region includes this continent, and nearby areas and territories. These are South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, which belong to the United Kingdom; Bouvet Island, a small Norwegian island; the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, which include French territories near Antarctica; and Heard Island and McDonald Islands, part of Australia. These areas are all part of the broader Antarctic region, even though they are not technically on the continent itself.
