Pyrenees

This post was last updated by José of onez on Friday, 13 June 2025.

The Pyrenees are a mountain range in Europe that form a natural border between Spain and France, also touching Andorra. They stretch from the Bay of Biscay in the west to the Mediterranean Sea in the east. In Spain, the highest peak is Aneto (3,404 m), located in the central Pyrenees. France shares much of the northern side of the range and has Vignemale (3,298 m) as its highest peak fully in France. Andorra is a small country between Spain and France, with Coma Pedrosa (2,942 m) as its tallest mountain. The Pyrenees are lower than the Alps but still have high peaks, deep valleys, and many ski areas.

Pyrenees ski areas

The most important ski areas in the Pyrenees are in Andorra. The largest is Grandvalira, which connects several areas into one big ski zone. It includes Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Bordes d’Envalira, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, and Encamp. All of these are linked by ski lifts and slopes, making Grandvalira the biggest and most visited ski area in the Pyrenees. Another ski area is Vallnord, which has two main sectors: Pal and Arinsal. These are smaller than Grandvalira but are popular for families and beginner skiers. There is also Ordino Arcalis, often called Arcalis, which is known for good snow and off-piste skiing. It is not connected to the others by ski lifts but is part of the same Vallnord ski pass.
