The Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in southern Spain, part of the Penibaetic System. It is located in the region of Andalusia, mainly in the province of Granada. The highest peak is Mulhacén, at 3,479 m, which is the highest point in continental Spain. The range also includes Veleta (3,398 m) and Alcazaba (3,371 m). The Sierra Nevada National Park protects much of the area. The main ski resort is called Sierra Nevada, with the resort village Pradollano. The closest city is Granada, about 30 km away. This range is known for both snow in winter and dry summers, and it is close to the Mediterranean Sea, about 50 km from the coast.

The Sierra Nevada Ski Area is the southernmost ski area in Europe and one of the highest. The top elevation of the pistes reaches about 3,300 m, and the base is around 2,100 m. The area offers over 100 km of ski slopes and is used for skiing, snowboarding, and night skiing. The season usually runs from late November to early May. The closest city is Granada, about 30 km away.
