The Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave in southeastern France, discovered on December 18, 1994, contains some of the best-preserved figurative cave paintings, dating back to the Aurignacian period (32,000–30,000 years ago), with evidence of human presence during both the Aurignacian and Gravettian periods, and was granted UNESCO World Heritage status on June 22, 2014.
