The Black Forest, also called Schwarzwald, is a mountain range in southwest Germany. It is not very high but is long and forested. The highest peak is Feldberg, at 1,493 m. The Black Forest is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It runs along the Rhine Valley, near the border with France and Switzerland. The area is known for thick forests, rivers, and hills. Many towns are nearby, such as Freiburg, which is the closest major city. Here you’ll find hiking trails and ski areas in winter. It’s also easy to get there by road and train.
